The Pandemic, Public Health, and a Path Ahead

From COVID-19 Impact to Addressing Systemic Inequities and Improving State Health

This 3-part At-A-Glance series highlights how cases of COVID-19 have shed light on the health of people who are incarcerated, people who are experiencing homelessness, and essential workers. Written by UD SHIP Undergraduate Fellows in spring 2021, the At-a-Glance series captures students' research on these topics as well as practitioner wisdom from SHIP organizational spotlights and stakeholder interviews each student conducted as part of their fellowship.

Health implications from the broader economic and social impact of the pandemic are also examined by the series. To an even greater extent, the existing underlying conditions and health inequities magnified by COVID-19 are explored as they relate to the broader systems of criminal justice, housing, and the labor market.

This At-A-Glance series supports emerging public health practice, which calls for a multi-sectoral approach and increased capacity for strategies that have the potential for broad, population-level health impact.  The series approaches each issue as a matter of public health and shares evidence on strategies and policies for many sectors to consider in our collective aim to improve the health of all Delawareans.

Delaware SHIP Special Topic: Gender-Based Violence

SHIP Student Fellows prepare At-A-Glance for Delaware Stakeholders

This 14-document At-A-Glance series addresses two foundational topics, Public Health and Social Justice, and Gender-Based Violence as a Public Health Issue.  Each foundational topic has an At-A-Glance written for three different audiences:

  • Public health practitioners
  • Practitioners from the non-public health sector
  • General public

The remaining 8 documents in the series are written for Delaware SHIP stakeholders working on SHIP priority areas and SHIP system-wide recommendations. The documents discuss how these areas intersect with gender-based violence.

This Delaware SHIP Special Topic At-A-Glance series was prepared by students working with the  Center for the Study & Prevention of Gender-Based Violence at the University of Delaware.
